"For those of you that think Summer is nearly through - I just want to remind you that there are 27 whole days left to have a good time before school starts..."
DAY 27
I have had the privilege of being hired at the Jimmy Johns on 6th and Main. Between training my hands to the speed of the sandwich making and learning the tricks to a corporate food establishment, I get to work with a staff of light-hearted, eternally casual people. In comparison to my other jobs, this one is a dream.
The importance of this is that most of my recents days start out with a rush shift at JJs from 11-~2. And although you may think a hectic job right in the morning could be bad, it has actually woken me out of the slumber this solstice has sent me into. I am refreshed and ready to continue the day.
And today was no exception. After a plethora of deliveries and time manning the register I emerge ready to see what Boise has to offer on this 8/2 Tuesday.
My maternal uncle and his spouse are in town for a few days from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and they have been eager to explore Boise. So yesterday they met with my father, two of my brothers, and my puppy at the Boise River to enjoy the cool, slow-moving waters. I got the chance to meet up with them and do the same
shortly after I got off of a lunch rush shift. It was great to see them enjoy what many Boiseans also enjoy on a regular basis. It was also fun to see them play with my puppy Samba, something that my family typically doesn't have an interest in.
With my relatives visiting and a large portion of my extended maternal family living in Boise, we met at PF Changs for an adult family dinner. The only children were myself and my brother Patrick along with 3 uncles, 3 aunt in-laws , my grandmother, and my parents. We had a waiter named Zackary who, unlike others in the
past, could actually handle and keep up with our sometimes nonsensical banter. But to be honest, I think he also unwittingly brought out some of the best in my extended family, a unit that is sometimes dissociative. It was awesome to see them all badgering and laughing with and at our waiter, and through this medium
we all could relate and relax together.
Even with the little I really know about them and the lack of connection we share, I still adore and admire the intelligence and character in my family. Growing up in a Mormon home and being one of the first to openly cease the practice has made friendship sometimes tedious and unwanted. But as I grow and years
go by, I think the gap has shrunk and will continue to shrink between us all and I hope it continues to do so because whether you know it or not, there is something big on the horizon. I can't rightly say what or how but I know that I feel it and so do others and in times of question I always turn to those that are more
intelligent than myself and I'm lucky you have a grip of intelligent family members to question the meaning of existence and the nature of our path within it.
The end of day 27, and onto 26. I'm sure something worthy lies in store.
